Kris asked:
What’s the best quality digital SLR camera you can recommend for a beginner? I’m looking at about $700 maximum, Australian dollars. I was looking at the Olympus Evolt 500 and the Canon 400D, based on what my friends can tell me about them, but I’m not sure, and the Canon 400 is out of my price range.

Drop by one of the big camera shop i your town and take a look at the stocks. You might find some near new models with a heavy discount.
One of the most popular entry level DSLR is the Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens. Not only is it an excellent camera, it is the entree into the worlds largest camera system of new and used cameras and lenses.
